Can Leaves Stain Your Metal Roof and Cause Any Damage?

Although the word “stain” doesn’t necessarily provide an accurate description of what might happen, the effect that fallen dead leaves can have on your metal roof is very real, and it can be quite damaging if left unchecked for a longer period of time.

Metal roofing systems are quite resilient. However, as time goes by, the coating that protects the metal from rusting will gradually fade, and the paint along with it. Now, normally this doesn’t happen so readily, and the process is quite slow and even, so it’s easy enough to determine when you need to repaint your metal roof or clean it and add an additional layer of coating for better protection.

However, fallen dead leaves can become a problem, since they can cause water to build up in specific areas of the roof, damage the coating and cause staining and rust to set in sooner. Moreover, if the leaves stay present, they can often hide the affected area from view, which makes you think that there is no damage.

Frequent cleaning and maintenance from roofing Highlands Ranch CO experts on a regular basis should help you get rid of this problem before it even arises. In most cases, all you need it to do that once or twice a year, in the autumn and possibly in the spring, so that any dead leaves can be removed before they get a chance to cause any staining or  long term damage.
